A Visit to the Real China

My mom and sis got to experience my regular routine here in Huangshi for their second week in China.  We pretty much did exactly what I do on a regular basis, just with more shopping and pampering than usual! haha Check out the pics!

We arrived by train on Sunday, but didn't have enough time to go to Fellowship.  We met up with everyone for lunch after!  Yes, it is completely normal to eat on little plastic stools!

Sunday evening we went to hip hop class.  These are some of the University students that take the class as well.  They are all very sweet!

I had to teach all week long, so Cam and mom accompanied me to all of my classes!  I think they started to enjoy being told how beautiful they were and how young!  Everyone kept asking if my mom was my older sister.  The Chinese do know how to make you feel special that's for sure!

I've been tutoring a middle school student named Geoffery this year.  He is so sweet and his English is wonderful!  He couldn't wait to meet my family, so he met us at school.  He practiced my mom's and Camryn's names before hand, so he could properly introduce himself. He said, "Welcome to China Mrs. Terri and Camryn!  I am Geoffery."  So cute!

Later that evening, we went to get our nails done and must here in Huangshi!  It is so cheap and they do a great job.  All day we had been noticing a smog starting to cover the city.  This isn't that unusual, but this time it looked different.  Come to find out there was some "issue" in Wuhan and the air was very polluted!  Eek!  Of course this would happen the week my mom and sister were here. Oh China!

Protecting ourselves from the air pollution.  First time I've had to do this since living here. The nail ladies were so sweet though to give us mask to wear home.

The next day, Paul and Erin's waiban treated all of us to lunch at one of the Western restaurants.
A delicious and legit chocolate milk shake from the restaurant!

This is the other boy I've been tutoring this year. He is moving to New Zealand in the Fall.

Camryn and Phyllistal, one of my Grade 2 students who was so brave and outgoing and asked my family a bunch of questions!  Camryn thought he was great and wanted a picture with him!

Anna another very outgoing Grade 2 student.

Bunny, Dawn and Chelsey

These are some of the kids I went on the 4 hour bike ride with, Anna, Near, Nicolas, Vickers, Random, Carter and Phillystal.

Two of the Grade 1 teachers.  Mr. Di is on the right, he has helped Lesley and I so much this year!  We share and office with him and his English is great, which is always helpful!

Just teaching away!

More student pics!  These girls are in Grade 2 and were in the Tik Tok dance I helped out with, their names are No Way and Spark.

Boys from Grade 2, Carter, Vickers, Random and Steve.

Diana took us out to the location of the new school, which we will be moving to in September. The buildings are so nice and the campus is huge.  It looks like a university!

We also went to the park in Hunagshi.  It is a much needed breath of "fresh air" and an escape from the busy downtown area.  It was super hot that day, so we didn't last that long out there, but it was still nice.

They have a Catholic chrch at the park.  You can kind of see it behind us.

Cam with one of my old students, now Lesley's student named Erica.  They had matching purses!

Getting their nails done, one last time before leaving Huangshi!  The place we went to is one of my favorites, the girl actually paints with a paintbrush on your nails.  She is so talented!

Cam got leopard print!

Mom got flowers painted on hers!

One of our favorite street vendors!  She makes jaotzi or dumplings.

Our other favorite street vendors, Sweet potato man and his wife! They make the best trash can bread and sweet potatoes.

Just a cute little baby girl we saw in our alley way! Love the pigtails!

Hatty Lee came over for lunch.  She used to be my student, but moved
to another school.  She was so excited to meet my family!

We went to dinner with Diana, her husband and daughter.

It was so nice to have my family with me in Huangshi!  My student's loved meeting them and kept trying to convince them to stay longer or to come back again. Thanks for coming to see me Mom and Camryn!  I loved spending time with y'all here and getting to show you around.
